Finally giving up on Blender for modelling. One of the worst UIs I’ve ever used. Seems like a powerful tool, but just not working for me.
I’ve now done a few models in Unreal Engine modelling mode, and find it quite usable. No doubt I’m missing a load of stuff experienced 3d modellers would find necessary, but some good tools in there.
Main pain so far is that the outliner is a bit inflexible in terms of managing the model when it’s made of different parts – you’re a bit stuck once you “promote” to a blueprint – but I think manageable at the moment, and will figure out a better workflow later.
Other challenge is that lighting/texturing fairly tricky – going to take quite a lot of tweaking to actually get a good effect on the paintwork.
