DevLog 13- First scenario view

Been a while since I posted a DevLog, so doing a quick spin through progress over the last couple of months, which has focused on a first initial scenario map, and ensuring some of the basic systems work on it – and making sure that setting up subsequent maps is easy enough.

The scenario I’m concentrating on is the Monklands to Kirkintilloch railway, one of Scotland’s first “proper” railways. Still deciding whether I want to model old style wagonways!

Towns are in historical locations – current thinking is that I create a main street based on the map, but town growth is organic. The above image has the 1850s map overlaid, so players can see original town locations, and even where the railway ran, which they can choose to follow or not!

Actual gameplay has a barebones (but complete) loop available. Progression here of station placement, railway placement, line creation, train assigned and industry delivery loop (forestry to sawmill here) all hanging together, albeit a little rough around the UI edges.

Pretty good progress, albeit a long way from even something in a demo. Have probably spent to long messing about with town growth mechanics, especially for a train game – my stage is likely to be a bit of polish around trains/wagons and mechanics around that.
